As you can see from the picture, Rev. Dr. William Barber is African American, and he is a minister. White people, please do not let those two facts blind you to perceiving his excellence. I am a white guy. I saw and heard him speak at Netroots Nation 2014 in Detroit. Best speech of my lifetime.
The most important fact to know about him is that he is a proponent of fusion politics. The Moral Monday movement that he has led for many years pulls in people from across the spectrum of progressive activism.
Raleigh, 2014
Look at the many exuberant colors of the people at a Moral Monday rally:
Who is he? He is organizing a movement that has been a game-changer in North Carolina. He is offering a blueprint for coalition building that, if repeated in other states, has the potential to redraw the electoral map in the South. His work may finally give us the antidote to the White Southern Strategy that has worked so well for Republicons for the last two generations, and let us build a new majority that encourages people to "vote their future not their fears."
Have you viewed, heard, or read this speech? What are your thoughts on Rev. Barber and fusion politics?
